Best of luck to Mary Conneally who lines out with the Clare U14 Football team in their first round Championship match against Waterford on March 1st.

Early Saturday morning, our minors lined out in the minor B shield final against their old rivals Kilkishen in Shannon camogie pitch. These are a very positive and hard working group. Many of these girls make up the club under 16 and senior teams. The match was a very exciting and hard fought match throughout. The girls initially fell behind by two points until a great burst through the middle by Aisling Corbett led to a Jessica Leamy goal which pushed the girls into the lead. The Clooney-Quin backs worked hard to keep the score down while the forwards were very unlucky not to score on a number of occasions. Before half time, Jessica Leamy converted a free after corner forward, Emily Moloney was fouled.  At half time the score was 1-1 for Clooney-Quin to 4 points for Kilkishen. After the break, with a few positional changes in the forwards the Clooney-Quin girls pushed ahead. Cathy Halpin in the backs and Hannah O’Brien in the forwards worked tirelessly in this half. Clooney-Quin began the second half in determined fashion yet it took 20 minutes before the first score of the half. With ten minutes to go the girls went two points ahead and it was again the hard work of the backs who kept the Kilkishen girls goalless. With five minutes to go there was a point between the teams. At this stage the Clooney-Quin girls from number one to fifteen fought as a team for their victory. Every girl on the team played with heart and pride and in the end came out the victors. A delighted Lorraine Ryan collected the shield on behalf of a jubilant Clooney-Quin team. The shield is a new shield which was donated by the Lynch family of Newmarket in memory of their 17 year old daughter who died in a horsing accident. All the girls on the team put in magnificent performances and did the club proud!
