U-12

Last Sunday morning, June  17th, saw our U-12 Ladies Football Team, play their best game this year. It was the Div II Shield semi final against a strong Coolmeen Team. Lucky for us, the venue was Gurteen, just up the road.

At the end of the first half, Clooney were leading by 4-3 to Coolmeen's 3-2. The teams were fairly evenly matched and as expected Coolmeen came out fighting in the second half. Coolmeen went ahead by 1 point early in the second half after scoring two quick goals. This was however their last score and Clooney went on to score 3-3 without answer. Final score Clooney/Quin 7-7, Coolmeen 5-2.

Team: Muireann Griffin, Michelle Meere, Rachel Begg, Sinead McGee, Mary Conneally (1-0), Brianna Fennell, Ellie Rochford (2-0), Leah O'Neill, Clara de Sousa (1-2), Aisling McGrath (0-5), Moya Dunne, Ciara Halpin, Shona Hale (2-0), Hannah Conneally (1-0), Niamh McGee.

Monday 19th March was the date set for the Round 2 match of the U12 East Clare Divisional League, with Clooney/Quin to play Newmarket in Newmarket. A number of the Clooney/Quin players were well warmed up before kick off after running and winning top places in the Clare Clubs annual cross country races. This was only some players second ever match for their club although hard to tell they played so well. The two teams were for most part quiet evenly matched with the end score reading Clooney/Quin 2-3 to Newmarket 0-3.

One week later, two matches later and into the South East Regional Final we go. The U12´s Ladies Football Team played their matches as planned on Thursday and Friday of last week. Against Wolfe Tones, they won 8-4 to no score. This win had been expected as Wolfe Tones had lost but one of their matches in the League. The win against NewMarket was a surprise as they had previously drawn and without a full squad on the Friday evening, such a comprehensive win was not dreamt of. The final score was 2-7 to 0-2. Team was: Orlaith Nash, Rachel Begg, Anna Corry, Jennifer O´Neill, Alex O´Neill, Aisling McGrath, Amy Moloney, Emma Deegan, Michelle Meere, Shona Hale, Clara de Sousa. Final is due to be played after Easter Monday. A win will mean Division 1 for the Championship, or to loose they would remain in Division 2, either way a fine performance to date by these young players. Good Luck Girls.

Their second match was in Newmarket - they drew this one and again it was a close match down to the wire.
The third match to date was palyed in Crusheen on Tuesaday last 5th April. They won this match 7-2 to no score. Goals from Emma Deegan (4), Jennifer O'Neill (2), Clara de Sousa (1) and points from Anna Corry and Orlaith Nash.
There are two more matches left in this league - against Wolfe Tones and Clarecastle. The results of all these match will determine which division Clooney will be in for the next League which begins after Easter and runs to Mid June.
