Eire Og had a single point to spare over CQ in last season's U13 championship and CQ U14s were taken to extra time before eventually prevailing in last year's quarter-final tie by the same club. So when our current crop of U14s led by 10 points at the interval on Good Friday one sensed that there was going to be a response from The Townies. Yes, it was a great 1st period for the home side with Gareth Dupper(1-2), Cillian Enright(1-2), Paul Hogan(0-1),Ben O'Donnell(0-1), Eoghan O'Brien(0-1) and Cathal Browne(0-1) all on the scoresheet while Dylan Considine-Kelly and Oisin Egan were leading a very tight defence at the other end. Indeed the only gripe from the home supporters at the break was that the lead should have been greater than the 2-8 to 0-4 on the board. Three goals early in the 2nd period from the visitors turned this game on its head and set up a an enthralling last quarter. Eire Og now had the momentum and got the benefit of the referee's whistle as they tacked on pointed frees while the CQ boys tried desperately hard to get back in the game. A few narrow home misses was followed by a cracking goal from Enright before The Townies hit their 4th goal to seal the win on a scoreline of 4-10 to 3-9. Next up for the boys is a meeting with a fancied Broadford/Smith O'Briens amalgamation on this Friday evening in Broadford.
