pato.jpgClooneys victory in the 1986 Intermediate Hurling Final was a very welcome win. Having come so close in 1985, losing that Final following a Replay to St. Josephs, Doora/Barefield, capturing the Title with a one-point win over Corofin was greeted with joyous scenes by the Clooney supporters. Pat O'Loughlin was Captain, as always, leading by example. Here is what he had to say..........

Flan Clune, along with his brother Mike, were pivotal members of the victorious Clooney Junior hurlers who bridged a 24-year gap when they captured the County Championship in 1966…………..

An extremely friendly, polite and popular Priest, he served many Parishes before returning to his native Quin. As a hurler he was fast, skilful and an excellent stickman. As a member of the Famous Clooney hurling team that contested five County Senior Finals in the 40’s, he is a very proud holder of a County Senior Hurling Medal which he won in 1942, the Clubs only County Senior Title.

johnˍohalloran.jpgJohnny O’Halloran was, and still is quite a character! During his playing days, he gave his own Mentors and opposition an equal amount of torment. On the field, he was a genius! The purists said he was very one-sided. But, with a similar style to the Great Joe Cooney, his scoring exploits were second to none. His Finest Hour was without question the Intermediate Hurling Final in 1986 when his goal set Clooney on their way to the County Title. For good measure, he hit what turned out to be the winning point in the dying moments of the game.
